Apart from South Indian songs, Swarnalatha has contributed her voice to various Bollywood songs as well. Not just Tamil, she had recorded songs in the Telugu language as well.
She also grabbed the opportunity to work with acclaimed director P. With this God-gifted talent, she was subsequently approached by many other music directors to perform songs under their baton. Unlike others, she had an inimitable voice which made her unique amongst other singers. Viswanathan where she sang a duet with K J Yesudas. In 1987, Swarnalatha received her first opportunity from M.S. Most of her hit songs are in the Tamil language. She is also considered one of the top leading singers in South Indian cinema. In her career which spanned 22 years, Swarnalatha recorded over 10,000 songs in various languages including Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Badaga, and Oriya. At the age of 37, Swarnalatha died at Malar Hospital Ltd Adayar as she was suffering from Idiopathic lung disease. Her very first teacher was her sister Saroja. Since she was surrounded by a family of musicians and singers, she was trained in Hindustani and Carnatic music. At the age of 3, Swarnalatha started singing. Later, Swarnalatha’s family moved to Bhadravathi in Shivamogga District, Karnataka where she did her education. She was under professional guidance and learned to play the harmonium and the keyboard. Cherukutty was a harmonium player and singer, and her mother, Kalyani also held a keen interest in music. She was born on 29th April 1973 in Chittur, Palakkad, Kerala, India. Swarnalatha is an Indian playback singer, who is popularly known as the humming queen of India. All her fans eagerly awaited the latest Swarnalatha songs to drop in so they could enjoy listening to them. She had a large fanbase not just in India, but worldwide.
